Don't be "that guy"

Postby aquavelvis » Tue Apr 09, 2019 1:47 pm

Thanks again to George for getting the ball rolling on the 2019 Scale Series. It's now less than two weeks until Race 1 on Saturday, April 20, so time's wasting on getting those cars ready.

Just some reminders:

Rules are at viewforum.php?f=19.

Read the rules, know the rules, and build your car(s) to the rules. Don't put George, Jim, or PA or whoever is running tech in the position of rejecting your car for a violation, especially for stuff that's hard to fix and which may result in you not being able to race for points.

That includes a few cosmetic points that we often overlook or gloss over in tech at our local races:
* car must have three numbers...stickers or painted numbers only, not something scrawled with a Sharpie at the last minute
* windshields on coupes should be clear
* coupes must have a driver...a stick-on wing car driver is fine in lieu of a detailed interior
* drivers on open-cockpit cars have to have some detail added (Sharpies are OK for this)
* car must have some kind of front wheels, either real physical wheels visible through masked areas or cut-outs on the body or, as allowed in LMP and Pro GTP, sticker fronts

Also, if you're building a car for yourself or someone else for the new Novice GTP, remember that it has some very specific requirements about an allowable motor, a set gear ratio (12/36), tires, and some other things.

Again, pay attention to the rules. Even if your car gets into qualifying and racing with something that was overlooked in tech, it could be later challenged by a competitor and disqualified.

Can you use a 3 piece chassis in LMP like the cheet 11 3 piece? The rules says can’t make a two piece emulate a three piece... It also says any flexi chassis can be used no say on numbers of pieces?

JK Cheetah 11 is a legal chassis, I have a couple myself that are going to be listed in the for sale section maybe tonight.

Short answer...yes. My favorite Flexi chassis combo for the Hillclimb and the Engleman in San Antonio...and seems it would work great on the Kingleman, too...is a JK X25 center section with the two lightweight .025 pans from a Cheetah 11 3-piece.

I like the X-25 center section in that combination because it's a bit shorter than the C-11 center section and that works better for me on the tight Hillclimb and Engleman's esses. It also is a little thicker/heavier (.032) than the C-11 center and has the "coined" guide tongue instead of the flat "K" shape tongue, and that all makes it a little tougher and better able to take a hit.

That said, PA and Parker Thompson from Houston and Gonzo and others have won a lot of races in Houston and SA with the C-11 3-piece.

Seems they're all good.
