Great turnout last Saturday at Capital City Raceway in Pflugerville on Austin's north side. CCR has been racing with full tracks for months now, and it showed from not just the number of racers, but the quality of the cars and racing stood out.
In LMP, sixteen racers took the green flags in A and B Mains. Overall, the Mueller clan took three of the top four spots: Randy in first, Deron in third, and JR in fourth; PA Watson of Houston eked out a second-place finish by half a lap over Deron. JR was TQ but finished fourth after some late problems. Checking the tech data, most ran JK chassis while the remainder ran Mossettis, and the very impressive Chicagoland Stage 4 motor was used by the entire field.
Pro GTP was taken by PA, who TQ'ed and pretty much ran away with the race. It should have been much closer but there was a lot of attrition among some very fast racers due to crash damage and a blown motor or two. With 13 racers, we ran A and B Mains again, so had a full complement of marshals. Jerry Straznicky came home second, two laps up on Josh Cook. Only PA and I ran "built" motors (mine apparently badly mis-geared!) while everyone else used a nice mix of Chicagoland and Mid-America motors.
Thanks to:
- Tom and Chris Schaffer for letting us race at CCR and running the day very efficiently;
- Austin- and Houston-area racers who showed up in force.
