  • SPECIAL EVENT: Magnatech 2-Hour LMP Enduro, Saturday, January 6

January 8: SCROLL DOWN FOR RESULTS

Clear the date! Mark your calendars!

Magnatech Raceway will hold a 2-hour Enduro for flexi-based LMP cars on Saturday, January 6.

    Basics:
    • 2023 South Texas Scale Series LMP rules; rules will be strictly enforced at tech, including presence of a legal driver figure and stickered or painted numbers.
    • two- or three-driver teams only, no solos.
    • entry fee will be $15 per car.
    • shop will open at 9 AM; tech opens 10:30 AM and closes at 11:00; lunch break until 11:30; race starts by 11:45.
    Enduro-specific rules:
    • Unless otherwise agreed by the Race Director on Race Day, each driver on a two-driver team must complete a minimum of two heats; one-heat driver minimum for three-driver teams.
    • No qualifying: each team’s starting lane will be randomly assigned by the computer.
    • We will race 15-minute heats across all eight lanes. However, depending on the number of entries, and perhaps subject to a race-day driver vote, we may elect to run six 20-minute heats (dropping red and black lanes).
    • Team member(s) not racing will be required to turn marshal.
    • Lane change duration will be a maximum of one minute; any repair or car maintenance that can’t be completed in that time will have to be done under the green flag with the car resuming the race at the driver’s stand.
    • There will be no stoppage of the race for car repair.
    • Cars may not be repaired during a track call unless damaged due to a track problem.
    • Only one chassis per car for the entire race; other than the center section and pan(s) assembly, all other parts aboard the chassis may be changed at any time.
    • No limit on the number of motors.
    • A second body can be used on these conditions: it must be the same model from the same manufacturer; it must be largely identical to the original body including the paint color and the same car number; the second body must be presented at tech and be impounded during the race; it will be released by the Race Director upon request.

If you don't have someone already lined-up to be teammates with, not to worry. We will find a team for everyone!

Is it possible you could forgo the mfg/type/color/number requirements on the 2nd body? Since I don’t know what body Lee & I ate going to race until I do some testing on Race Day, I would sure like to be able to choose an existing body (and back-up too) instead of having to make a couple bodies of the same type w/ same number & then maybe not even race them.

A fair question, but...whether you show up with an Orca or a Kelly LMP or something else entirely...with duplicate as backup...we know that either will work really well. I'm coming in with an HD Orca with a backup. That's it. Because I know the Orca will be good, with the biggest limiting factor being me and how good or bad I'm driving that day. If somebody else's something else works better, so be it.

I mean, we could have stuck with the old "just one body" requirement and have a bunch of stapled and taped-together rags running around at the end. So, we're gonna stick with the rules as posted.

          Thanks, PA

Five teams made it to the starting line for Saturday's LMP Enduro at Magnatech:
                • Delta: Connor and Kurt Van Delden
                • Jet Central Texas: David Neal and PA Watson
                • Outlaw Capitol City: Josh Cook, Butch Lake, and Dave Muir
                • The Flash: James Meadours and Seve Moran
                • Taylor Bros: Matt and Scott Taylor
We elected to run six 20-minute heats, skipping red and black lanes.

From the green flag, Jet and Delta ran neck-and-neck, and after two heats (forty minutes) were separated by only one or two laps. Taylor Bros were third, 16 laps down, followed by Capitol City and The Flash.

Near the end of the third heat, the Jet car had some issues...stalling, starting with a push, and stalling again. By the end of that heat, Delta had opened a 15-lap lead over Jet, and Taylor Bros had crept to within a few laps of the troublesome Jet car.

At the start of heat 4, the Jet car stopped altogether. The problem that cropped up in heat 3 was apparently a lead wire that wasn't quite fully broken, thus the intermittent running/stalling. It gave up the ghost for good in heat 4 and by the time they got back in the race they were in third behind the Taylor Bros who had closed to within six or seven laps of Delta.

Early in heat 5, Taylor Bros got within four laps of taking the lead from Delta, but a few minutes in, Delta really turned it on and finished the heat up by 18 laps. The Jet team lost the handle big time. PA told me later they changed tires when fixing the lead wire in heat 4, and selected a set that didn't work; rather than pit under green for a tire change and lose tons of laps, they elected to soldier on with what they had.

The order was static through heat six, with no positions changing, and Delta took the win followed by Taylor Bros, Jet Central Texas, Outlaw Capitol City, and the Flash. The final results:

                Pos.....Team.............................................Total Laps...........Fast race lap
                1.........Delta.................................................1236................5.156 (blue)
                2.........Taylor Bros......................................1225................5.269 (green)
                3.........Jet Central Texas.........................1200.................5.217 (white)
                4.........Outlaw Capital City....................1101.................5.441 (green)
                5.........The Flash.........................................1009.................5.820 (blue)

Thanks to PA, Josh, Butch, and Dave for travelling to San Antonio from Houston and Austin to take part in this race, the first of its type here in SA for quite some time, maybe a few decades.

                Delta: The winners!

The Flash. Great jobs by James and Seve racing a loaner car that I'm surprised ran for two hours

If you participated and enjoyed it, or if you wanted to but couldn't make it, please feel free to reply below. Maybe we can do some more of these here and/or Pflugerville someday.
